State Dems Want to Suspend Gas Tax

Democrats in the state Legislature are proposing a seven-month suspension of the state's gas tax, starting May 1.

Lawmakers hope to pass the suspension as part of the state budget.

State Senate leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins wants to see some sort of relief from the high gas prices.

The state tax adds 48 cents to the price of every gallon.

Governor Hochul says a break on the tax is being studied, but she points out that lawmakers also want more money for road and bridge projects -- which are funded with the tax.
