NY State Covid Numbers Surge

The state has broken its one-day COVID case record for three straight days.

The number of new cases Sunday was 22,478. That's more than 500 more than the day before.

The daily numbers are the highest since the earliest days of the pandemic, when testing was far less available.

The postive test rate yesterday was 8.4 percent statewide -- and the seven-day average rose to nearly 6-point-9 percent.

Governor Hochul has deployed more than 40 new vaccine pop-up sites around the state to help combat the winter surge
