5 Shot in Rochester Incidents Over 24 Hours

Five people were shot in Rochester in a string of separate incidents that took place from early Saturday morning to Saturday evening.One caused the death of a 16-year-old boy.

The 16-year-old was killed on Hague Street a little after 7:00 Saturday evening. A 30-year-old was shot in the lower body a short time later but is recovering. Police don't know yet if the two shootings are related.

Two women were shot early Saturday at a large gathering on Lincoln Avenue. The women, who are 22 and 23 years old, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Multiple fights were said to have broken out at the gathering.

At about 5:30 Saturday evening, Rochester police investigating a report of gunfire on the West Side found a 19-year-old city man on Phelps Avenue who told them he had been shot on Backus Street, running to Phelps Avenue to find help. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is recovering. No arrests have been made.

Finally, Rochester police say a man shot on Fall Street near the High Falls Saturday night was the apparent victim of a robbery attempt that went wrong. He was hit in the lower body and is recovering. No suspects are in custody so far.
