State Lawsuit Against Opioid Manufacturers

The state's lawsuit against manufacturers and distributors of opioids is being heard by a judge on Long Island.

The trial began yesterday.

State Attorney General Letitia James says the state will "lay bare" what she calls "the callous and deadly pattern of misconduct these companies perpetrated as they dealt dangerous and addictive opioids across our state."

And she hopes any proceeds from the lawsuit can be invested in prevention, education, and treatment programs.

The many defendants included Johnson & Johnson, which reached a settlement with the state over the weekend.
