Brighton Ax Murderer Could Go to Trial

A court hearing this week could determine whether the man charged in the Brighton ax murder case will go to trial.

James Krauseneck was arrested in 2019 for the 1982 murder of his wife, Cathleen.

The issue involves the 37 years before Krauseneck was indicted.

The defense will argue the prosecution had no new evidence to justify the charges, and bringing the charges now is a violation of Krauseneck's right to a speedy trial -- because investigators have died.

The prosecution will argue that investigators did not focus strictly on Krauseneck as a possible suspect.
