Students and Staff at New York State Schools Still Required to Wear Masks

Students and staff at schools across New York State will still have to wear masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The state Education Department says the policy is still in effect, despite the letter Friday from state Health Commissioner Doctor Howard Zucker saying the state intended to waive the mandate today.

Officials say Zucker's letter was actually requesting guidance from the Centers for Disease Control regarding mask-wearing policies at schools and summer camps. Since the CDC hasn't responded to the letter, no changes to the current guidelines are being made yet.
