Pittsford Doctor Charged for Overdose Death of Patient

A doctor from Pittsford is facing charges for the overdose death of a patient and for an alleged pattern of prescribing prescriptions for people he knew to be addicts.

According to the Attorney General's office, Sudipt Deshmukh fostered his patients' addictions over ten years with prescriptions for dangerous combinations of pain killers.

Witnesses sais he rarely performed physical examinations and provided prescriptions on request.

He's accused of knowingly prescribing one addict -- for years -- a drug combination known to increase the high and the risk of respiratory problems and death. The patient later died.

The charges include manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and health care fraud.
