Rochester City Council Mulls Hiring DC Firm to Advise RPD Reform

The Rochester City Council's Public Safety Committee is considering hiring a Washington, DC law firm to advise the city in reforming its police department.

Mayor Lovely Warren says she backs hiring the team because she says the city can't wait on the result of state or possible federal investigations of the department to begin the reform process.

The DC firm of Wilmer-Hale has worked with cities including Ferguson, Missouri; Baltimore, Maryland and Aurora, Colorado on issues involving excessive use of force or patterns of discriminatory conduct against African Americans.
