5th Night of Demonstrations Ends Peacefully

A call by Mayor Lovely Warren and Police Chief La'Ron Singletary for Church Elders to stand between police and protesters apparently kept the situation calmer last night than in past nights.

Police say a crowd of about 1,000 Black Lives Matter demonstrators marched in the evening from Jefferson Avenue, where Daniel Prude was subdued by police, to the Public Safety Building. This time there are no reports of pepper balls or teargas being fired and no arrests were made. Dr. Myra Brown of Spiritus Christi church and a group of about 60 church elders stood in front of the building as a buffer between police and the demonstrators.

Everyone went home peacefully, and some demonstrators stayed to pick up the trash.
