The New York State Attorney General's Office is investigating the case of Daniel Prude.
He's the black Chicago man whose family says was held down, handcuffed and killed by Rochester Police officers in the early morning hours of March 23rd -- while having a mental health crisis.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has issued a statement expressing her condolences to the Prude family and calling the death of Daniel Prude a tragedy.
she says she shares the community's concerns about a fair and independent investigation. She also says she supports their right to protest.
James says her office is investigating the case per Governor Cuomo's executive order, will follow the facts, and will ensure a complete investigation.

“The death of Daniel Prude was a tragedy, and I extend my deepest condolences to his family. I share the community’s concerns about ensuring a fair and independent investigation into his death and support their right to protest. Pursuant to Executive Order 147, the Special Investigations and Prosecutions Unit of my office is already actively investigating this incident. As with every investigation, we will follow the facts of this case and ensure a complete and thorough examination of all relevant parties.We willwork tirelessly to provide the transparency and accountability that all our communities deserve.”
