Gillibrand Wants to Rename Landmarks With Confederate General Names

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wants new names for landmarks in the state named after confederate generals.

She is asking the defense department to rename Lee Gate, Lee Barracks, and Lee Road at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

She also wants portraits of General Robert E. Lee there to be taken down.

She also wants new names for General Lee Avenue and Stonewall Jack Drive at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.

Gillibrand says the names serve as a glorified reminder of our racist past.
