Blue Green Algae Spotted on Canandaigua, Honeoye Lakes

The Ontario County Health Department says it's received reports of blue green algae at Butler Beach on Canandaigua Lake...and Sandy Bottom beach on Honeoye Lake.

Some kinds of the blue green algae produce toxins that can cause allergic reactions, eye, nose and skin irritation, and liver damage. It's generally safe to boat and swim in areas where there's no visible algae, but people, pets and livestock should avoid touching water if they can see the algae on the surface.
