Mental Competency Hearing For Man Accused in Attack on RPD Officer

A court hearing is being held today on the mental competency of the man charged in an attack last fall on a Rochester Police Officer.

At issue is whether defendant Keith Williams is able to assist with his defense.

He is charged with aggravated attempted murder and assault in the October stabbing that blinded Officer Denny Wright.

Today, Williams frequently interrupted the hearing, sometimes speaking gibberish.

Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Gretchen Foley, testified Williams is competent, and explained how she distinguishes between someone who is ill and someone who fakes it.
