Republicans in the minority in the state Assembly appear poised to choose Assemblyman Will Barclay as their new leader.
Barclay represents a district north of Syracuse.
He would succeed Brian Kolb, of Canandaigua, who resigned as leader Friday after his New Years' Eve DWI arrest in Victor.
Steve Hawley, who represents a district west of Rochester, had been thought to be interested in becoming Minority Leader, but he issued a statement yesterday in support of Barclay.
The new legislative session begins this week. The governor will deliver his State of the State address Wednesday.
