Driver Sentenced In 2018 Irondequoit Hit And Run Death

A Greece man has been sentenced to spend eight weekends in jail, plus five years on probation in the hit-and-run death of an Irondequoit woman last year.

Vincent Mannillo was driving a flatbed hauling a dumpster down Bay Road in Irondequoit last November when an unsecured door on the dumpster flew open and hit 87-year-old Joan Dierna. Dierna, who checking her mailbox, was killed by the blow and flung into a ditch.

Mannilo's attorney Joe Damelio says his client is remorseful.

Police were able to track down Mannillo's truck using video from household security cameras. The 63-year-old driver was charged with criminally negligent homicide. He pleaded guilty. Mannillo claimed he never realized the accident had happened.
