Gates Police: Woman Accused of Crashing into Wagon, Facing New Charges

The woman who police say drove her car into a wagon carrying two small children last week, is facing additional charges.

Gates Police say Letoya Palmo has been charged with two counts each of assault and reckless endangerment.

She was arraigned on the new charges in Gates Town Court and bail was set at $10,000 cash or $40,000 bond.

Palmo told police she was driving with her three children on Lyell Avenue when she was distracted by her kids in the backseat. She swerved to avoid a utility pole and jumped a curb.

Police now say that after a forensic examination of her cell phone, Palmo was actually videotaping a for rent sign that was up at the corner of Lyell Ave. and Rossmore St. at the time of the crash.

Police also say Palmo's vehicle was not safe to drive.

The two children that were hit by Palmo’s vehicle remain hospitalized.
