The SUNY Swimmers Saga: Cuomo Says "No" to Outside Funding for Hotel

Governor Cuomo won't let swimmers from the SUNY campuses pay their own way to stay at hotels close to the upcoming Division III swimming championships in North Carolina.

The state won't cover the costs because of the governor's 2016 ban on state travel to the state.

The swimmers raised the money themselves, but Cuomo's office says the ban covers any traveling under the banner of the state -- even with outside funding.

The swimmers will have to stay in Virginia and travel each day into North Carolina.

The ban was enacted after North Carolina passed -- then only partially repealed -- the so-called bathroom law.
