Cuomo Administration Embracing Legalization of Recreational Marijuana

The Cuomo Administration is embracing the legalization of recreational marijuana.

The state health department says in a report the "positive effects" outweigh the "potential negative effects." The report says recreational marijuana could generate two-thirds of a billion dollars in annual revenue for the state. And the report says legalization would curb the disproportionate arrests of minority citizens.

The state Legislature is not scheduled to return to Albany until January, so legislation is not likely to be approved before then.
